THEFT OF LAWN SIGNS IN THE GUILDWOOD AREA

Recently in the Guildwood area there have numerous thefts of signs from the lawns of residential homes. 

hese signs are related to the proposal to erect wind turbines along the shore of Lake Ontario.

The signs are primarily white with black lettering with the acronym "S.O.S." SAVE OUR SHORELINE.

COMMUNITY SIGNS STOLEN IN GUILDWOOD

March 22, 2010 (Toronto City Hall) - It has come to the attention of Toronto City Councillor Paul Ainslie, after numerous phone calls that community signs are being stolen off of the front lawns of homes in the Guildwood area of his Ward 43. 

“Stealing signs off of people’s front lawns in the middle of the night is really an affront to everyone’s right to voice their dissent in a democratic society” stated Councillor Ainslie. “It clearly shows people have no respect for other opinions, or their right to private property.”

The complaints started coming in to the Councillor’s office late last week as people woke up to find signs they had purchased from Toronto Wind Action Group to protest wind testing for a proposed wind turbine farm off the Scarborough Bluffs.  The black & white signs which read “Save Our Shoreline’, were systematically, taken over the course of a number of nights.

“Residents have been working very hard on a number of different levels to combat the potential installation of wind turbines off the Scarborough Bluffs.” Said a clearly frustrated Councillor Ainslie. “On one level these thefts clearly show someone isn’t happy because our message is getting out. 

Our community will not accept wind turbines, and it’s a message which resonates in many communities since the provincial Liberals created the Green Energy Act.”

43 Division police have been called by Councillor Ainslie to increase night time patrols in the area.
